Yesterday I posted about the new online crime fiction book club I was starting up. In that post there was a link to the tab at the top of the page with the details on how the club would technically function. I have had a lot of interest in the book club on Twitter but the stats don’t show a lot of visitors to the page that gives the information on how it works, so I thought I’d leave a quick post in easy view here as well.
Below is a copy and paste from that page. I can also recommend an ebook from Amazon on how to use Google+ if you need any extra help. It’s what I was reading when I had the idea for the book club! It’s 49p. (or was at the time of writing this post.) It’s What The Plus, by Guy Kawasaki.
How to Join and enage with crime book club!
Crime Book Club is an online book club that meets on the third Wednesday of every month on Google+ Hangouts.
It’s a book club for crime fiction lovers. A book club where it really doesn’t matter where you live, as long as you can get to a computer you can join in the fun.
You can find me on Google+ Here or by searching for Rebecca Bradley. Let me know on there that you want to join the book club and I’ll add you to the Crime book club group circle.
If you can’t make it to the Hangout one month, don’t worry, we’ll live tweet using the hashtag #crimebookclub.
We’ll start the meeting at 8 p.m. GMT which should give everyone time to do the things they need to get done for the evening and we will aim to complete the meeting in an hour.
There will be a choice of three books to vote on each month and you can vote on the blog, on the Facebook page or on Twitter by @rebeccaJBradley or using the #crimebookclub hashtag. Nominations for the vote are always welcome. Don’t forget, there is never any pressure to buy the book chosen for the month, it can always be obtained from your local library.
I know many of you are scratching your heads now with the mention of Google+ and Hangouts, so here’s the how-to;
- If you have a gmail then you are about all set. If not, that’s your first step, create yourself a gmail account. It’s free and the spam filter is strong.
- There’s a black bar running across the top of the browser page once you’re logged into your gmail. The first button is your Google+ account. Mine shows +Rebecca. Click yours.
- Search me out in the search bar and let me know you’re for the crime book club. I’ll add you to the club circle.
- Once you’re in the circle, you can get into the Hangout when it’s on. I will start the group hangout and you will be notified it’s on once you’re online. This Help post discusses Hangouts and circles.
- That’s it, we’re up and running!

Hi Rebecca – a great idea – but the time difference means I cant participate. Good luck with the enterprise – I am sure it will be a huge sucesss.

Thank you. I know the blog covers many time zones. It’s great to see the support though, so thank you. 🙂

Hi Denyse. We haven’t had a meeting yet. I went to the festival last week, which was nothing to do with this, but it got me interested in many more crime books I need to be reading. The first meeting is Wednesday 21st August with Agatha Christie, Murder on the Orient Express. 🙂

Great idea! I’m going to try to join in. I say try only because it seems like lately every time I say I am going to do something I end up distracted and forget! I am totally scattered lately LOL.
