The virtual crime book club met on Monday to discuss The House Across the Lake by Riley Sager. Unfortunately there is no video this month.
We do have an interesting vote and book for our December read though, as we are doing a secret Santa! This will be where all you have to vote on is the blurb. There will be no appealing cover and no title or author. I’m so excited to see where this will take us!
If you’re not yet a member of the crime book club and fancy joining us, you can sign up HERE (necessary for login details).
The next meeting is Monday 8th December at 8 p.m. GMT.
To vote on this month’s book leave your choice in the comments before midday GMT on Sunday 16th November.
I look forward to seeing how this one goes 🙂
Book One
Constable Paul Hirschhausen runs a one-cop station in the dry farming country south of the Flinders Ranges. He’s still new in town but the community work-welfare checks and working bees-is starting to pay off. Now Christmas is here and, apart from a grass fire, two boys stealing a ute and Brenda Flann entering the front bar of the pub without exiting her car, Hirsch’s life has been peaceful.
Until he’s called to a strange, vicious incident in Kitchener Street. And Sydney police ask him to look in on a family living outside town on a forgotten back road.
Suddenly, it doesn’t look like a season of goodwill at all.
Book Two
On the day Stockholm police officer Hanna Ahlander’s personal and professional lives crash, she takes refuge at her sister’s lodge in the Swedish ski resort paradise of Åre. But it’s a brief comfort. The entire village is shaken by the sudden vanishing of a local teenage girl. Hanna can’t help but investigate, and while searching for the missing person, she lands a job with the local police department. There she joins forces with Detective Inspector Daniel Lindskog, who has been tasked with finding the girl. Their only lead: a scarf in the snow.
As subzero temperatures drop even further, a treacherous blizzard sweeps toward Åre. Hanna and Daniel’s investigation is getting more desperate by the hour. Lost or abducted, either way time is running out for the missing girl. Each new clue closes in on something far more sinister than either Hanna or Daniel imagined.
Book Three
Adopted when she was only days old, Ivy Hon knows little about her lineage. But when she’s stricken with a mystery illness, the results of a genetic test to identify the cause attract the FBI. According to Ivy’s DNA, she’s related to the Full Moon Killer, who has terrorized the Pacific Northwest for decades. Ivy is the FBI’s hope to stop the enigmatic predator from killing again.
When an online search connects Ivy with her younger cousin, she heads to rural Rock Island, Washington, to meet the woman. Motivated by a secret desire to unmask a murderous relative, Ivy reaches out to what’s left of a family of strangers.
Discovering her mother’s tragic fate and her father’s disappearance is just the beginning. As Ivy ventures into a serial killer’s home territory, she realizes that she may be the next victim of poisonous blood ties.
Book Four
In this tale of mystery and suspense, a stranger enters the inner sanctum of the Ashby family posing as Patrick Ashby, the heir to the family’s sizable fortune. The stranger, Brat Farrar, has been carefully coached on Patrick’s mannerism’s, appearance, and every significant detail of Patrick’s early life, up to his thirteenth year when he disappeared and was thought to have drowned himself. It seems as if Brat is going to pull off this most incredible deception until old secrets emerge that jeopardize the imposter’s plan and his life. Culminating in a final terrible moment when all is revealed.
Book Five
Ukrainian homicide detective Zoya Zozulya has a reputation that swerves from pushing boundaries to outright insubordination. When she crosses the line one too many times, her superiors make her someone else’s problem, dispatching her to Interpol’s Manchester office.
Teamed with Professor Robin Rutherford, a reserved and meticulous English academic, Zoya is thrust into a sprawling Dutchmen are turning up dead in cities across Europe, the victims of a brutal gangland conspiracy. The body count rises, and so does the danger. Zoya’s unorthodox methods put her in the crosshairs of a killer with a personal vendetta, but she’s not about to back down.
Book Six
Thirteen years ago, Jori Trahan’s boyfriend vanished without a trace. Now, after moving back home to Alabama to care for her ailing grandmother and autistic brother, she comes face-to-face with the deadly mystery behind his disappearance.
Jori has a rare form of synesthesia, meaning she can “hear” colors; to her, tones of voice are as unique as fingerprints. With the help of this ability and a sympathetic cop, Jori comes dangerously close to uncovering the truth. But those responsible will go to any length—including murder—to keep their dark secrets buried.
Soon, it seems that no one in the sleepy bayou town is safe, and after Jori’s brother is kidnapped, she knows she must drop the investigation or risk losing her family. But when protecting them means letting an evil deed go unpunished, putting family first may be the last thing she’ll ever do.

Thanks, as always, Rebecca. My vote is for Book Two.
What a nice change, not knowing the title. Although in Book Four the cat was let out of the bag!
I am choosing Book Six after much deliberation with myself – they are as usual all very interesting!
Thank you, Rebecca, and happy choosing everyone!
Oh! Thanks Muriel. It wasn’t the only one. I clearly rushed when I was putting it together. Both have been removed. 😆
Book One.
Another Book 2 for me
Book five book please
Book 2 please
Box 2 – like the idea of snow!
Book 5, please. 😊
Well, looks like Book 4 is not very popular so far. That’s my choice and the only one I want to read here at this point.
Fun way of choosing!
Book 2 looks good to me
Book one for me please Rebecca.
I’ve read book two a few months ago and I would read it again, as I liked it. Would be interesting to hear what the group members think.
So book 2 please.
Book one
Book two would have been interesting, but I’ve seen the TV series already, so book six, since I’m neurodivergent myself, and it would be interesting to read about an odd duck of a detective 😊
I am the first to choose book 3 so it’s not going to happen but I’ll pick it anyway!
I like book 2 please, book 3 is 2nd choice x
First choice: Book 2
Second choice: Book 3
After the votes are cast, would you let us have the titles and authors please?
Hi
Book 5 or Book 2
